I came to this site seeking advice on what God would say about the little strip of blue I recently put into my hair, and all I really found was bickering of personal views.
I agree with the view that God knows my heart. He knows that I didn't dye my hair for the purpose of vanity, or because I was ashamed of the brown hair God gave me, and he certainly knows that it's not because I felt like rebelling... which is the current view my father chooses to have. I did it because I thought it would be fun, and because I didn't think there would be so much debate about whether God is angry with me now or not.
To those who provided scripture for me to reflect on, thank you. I will certainly discuss this with my own pastor, pray about it and hope that God provides me with an answer less muddled with debate and passive aggression.
Oh and I am a pentecost as well, but my church is not a part of the UPC. We're just a small church with a strong love for God and for one another. Anyway, I'm saying this for the 34 year old woman who put 'Discouraged' as their name. Please don't let a corrupt church or lukewarm Christians stop you in your walk with God. It took my parents many years of prayer before we were finally blessed with the church we now go to. I will definitely pray for you as well.
God Bless.

I am a 34 year old woman and I was raised in foster care all my life. When I was 18 years old I began going to a independent holiness church with a friend. I was saved and met my husband there and we were married when I turned 21. Anyway to make a long story short. I was never treated like one of them they shunned me and I was not allowed to do things in the church. I am a very modest woman I have long hair and I wear very modest makeup. I have always felt a call in my life to work with children but never given the opportunity. After 13 years of this . My husband and I decided to pull out and are now trying to find another church. A lot of times people just judge based on the outward and not the inward. I almost gave up on church because of the way I was treated. Oh by the way I forgot to mention my Father in law is the pastor of this church.

If I dye my hair to attract men, then it is a sin. If we color our hair for attention, lust, flirt................then it is a sin, otherwise its okay.

Many say that the bible does not speak about abortion, but it does. One of the ten commandments says........thy shall not kill. Abotion common sense kills destroys a human, so abortion is another word for kill.

In my opinion, I don't think that it is wrong to dye your hair. (Pointless info mine is fire red at the moment, I wanted change and a way to express myself without tattoos and piercing's)

These arguments or debates always seem to get messy. Its the fight of the fittest in a way..I'm right you're wrong..and vice versa. I guess everybody is entitled to their own opinions and you should respect that. What is 'right' for you isn't necessarily right for the next person. The issue comes with the various ways people interpret the Bible and then you get a clash of views which then leads to the forced 'feeding' of that views. That said, I have a big issue with people taking Bible verses out of context just to suit them and their beliefs.

To comment on the post about mary and martha, obviously they wouldn't worry about those things because their culture and 'world' was very different than ours to date. Mea, yet what if you cut your hair of for a good cause like a cancer marathon? Or what if you loose your hair because of an illness? Hmm.

We're all fast to jump and judge, deciding what God will say. If your hair is purple...blue..black..mixed that isn't our problem. We don't know what is between you and God. I don't think it is vain to take care of yourself or to love yourself (love by accepting who you are, strong and weak points and if you have a positive self concept).

I just always thought Jesus loved you for the 'inside'. He knows your heart and why we do certain things. In the end, we'll never be able to make everybody happy.

Some people think this verse would prohibit women from wearing pants because pants have traditionally been worn by men. But, in light of the similarity of men's and women's clothing in Biblical times and the fact that pants were not worn by either sex at that time, that conclusion would be difficult to justify.
Mixed materials
There was also a prohibition against wearing clothes woven of wool and linen together:
Do not wear clothes of wool and linen woven together. (NIV, Deuteronomy 22:11)

Some times people look at the scriptures and do not take the time to research them, and I mean by the hebrew mostly greek trannslation times. It is sad to be judged on our appearences. Song of Solomon 1:10-11, NASB
“Your cheeks are lovely with ornaments, Your neck with strings of beads. We will make for you ornaments of gold With beads of silver.”
There is also numerous scriptures of jewels being a good thing. just do not make this your worship. When I grew up in the upc, now I am a nondeominational christian, I heard woman can not have nail polish, lip gloss and cover up. Now as an adult I came back to God alittle over a year ago, well they now say its ok to wear coverup, and french manicures....not nail polish but...french manicures hmmm that is man made doctrines. Sooooo....its just sad. People are taking some scriptures and using some, twisting and changing it to what they want.

I do not believe that anybody has the right to judge anyone for their beliefs and/or personal convictions. I am an apostolic pentecostal. I wear skirts, I don't cut/dye my hair, I don't wear makeup, i don't wear pants, etc.. never have. When i turned 18 i thought i was too cool for church, but in the few years that i was in and out of church; not one time (though things were available to me or offered) did i feel like it was okay to cut my hair, dye my hair, wear makeup, wear pants, wear jewelry, smoke a cigarette, take a drink. There were sooo many times i was tempted but something grabbed at my heart so strongly, and i would cry myself to sleep that night for even thinking i could have gone through with any of that. I don't need to search the bible for those things or argue with people about it, it is as clear as day that I am to live the way I am convicted to live. I do not condemn or judge people that do not believe like i do, i do try to show (those who ask) what is in the bible and what is in my heart. I am in no way claiming to be perfect but i strongly believe that God will direct/convict/guide "whosoever will". God knows who is sincere and who is not, and only the sincere/hungry will be shown the truth. I know this section was about dying hair etc but I wrote what i wrote because its all in the same to me.

Nor are these scriptures anything to do with dying hair, but all of this connects for me; especially after reading that 99.9% of the people on here are finding it hard to find/believe what the bible says about certain things. If you forget about what the world says and try not to break down the bible until you have completely lost yourself, you can just turn to God and find all of your answers through him. Those who get it, will get it.. those who don't.. well they won't. It's all between you and God in the end.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. (Proverbs 3:5-6)

You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. (Jeremiah 29:13)

The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble. Those who know your name will trust in you, for you, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you. (Psalm 9:9-10)
